The inaugural Dutch Open took place in 1912 at the Haagsche course in the Netherlands, with Englishman George Pannell winning that first event. The event dꦕidn’t reoccur until 1915, when, once again, it was held at Haagsche. On that occasion, winner Gerry del Court van Krimpen beat Englishmen Henry Burrows and Ernest Kettley to lift the trophy on home ground. After that, the tournament took place there every year until the outbreak of the ಌSecond World War in 1939.

The competition resumed in 1945 after a six-year hiatus. The tournament has been a fixture in the , with the exception of 2020, when it was cancelled due to the pandemic.
