How Are the Profit & Loss Figures Calculated?

As mentioned earlier, the Profit & Loss (P/L) statistics are calculated as if you had backed each team to win every game with £10 stakes, using odds from bet365. The data is then added together cumulatively throughout the season to give the total 🌼profit or loss each team would have generated.

ROI (Retuꦏrn On Investment) is calculated by dividing the total Profit/Loss by the number of matches played, and is then converted into a percentage.

The Bundesliga is known for a number of high-scoring matches.

Over the past 10 years, we have seen the average number of goals in a match vary between 2.75 and 3.2, which means that a bet on ‘Over 2.5 goals’ is something probably worth looking into.

Particularly over the past few seasons, we have seen a spike in the goals per match, showing that Bundesliga teams are leaning more and more towards an attacking style of play. The likes of Robert Lewandowski, Timo Werner, and young poacher Erlin🥀g Haaland have all grabbed the attention of many for their number of goals scored in recent campaigns.

Polish super-striker Robert Lewandowski has perfected th⛄e artܫ of scoring in Germany by managing to sit at the helm of the top-scorer list of the league for 4 seasons in a row between 2017/18 and 2020/21.

Bundesliga Champions – Historical Home Win Percentage Stats

The so-called home advantage manifests itself in this particular stat, since most teams normally record the highest number of club fans attending a match when playing on their home turf. When the support is strong, teams tend to become even more motivated for a win than usual, and this normally translates into improved performances on the pitch. The below table shows us the home win percentage achieved by the teams who ende♌d up winning each season for the past 10 ye💛ars.

Bayern Munich managed a whopping 88.2% in the 2013/14 season, which saw ꦿthem winning 15 of the 17 matches disputed at the Allianz Arena. During that period, a🦋ll the Bayern Munich home matches were completely sold out.

SeasonChampionsHome Win Percentage
2020/21Bayern Munich76.5%
2019/20Bayern Munich76.5%
2018/19Bayern Munich82.4%
2017/18Bayern Munich82.4%
2016/17Bayern Munich76.5%
2015/16Bayern Munich82.4%
2014/15Bayern Munich82.4%
2013/14Bayern Munich88.2%
2012/13Bayern Munich82.4%
2011/12Borussia Dortmund82.4%

Overall, the Home Win Percentage for the Bundesliga in 2020/21 was 42%, and it happens to be the one of the lowest ratios since 2006. The season before that, we calculated the ratio was 40% – both of which are well below the average of 44.9% (calculated since 2006).

The low home win percentages in the 2019/20 and 2020/21 seasons were not something only recorded in the Bundesliga, though. This phenomenon can also be seen in other top leagues around Europe, since many matches during those seasons were played out in empty stadiums due to government-imposed restrictions.

Bundesliga Champions – Historical Away Win Percentage Stats

When on the run, the win percentages are not expected to be as high as the home ones; however we have seen some stunning away campaigns in a few instances. In 2012/13, Bayern Munich actually managed to win more away matches than home matches, beating 15 teams away and ‘only’ 14 at home. That meant that the German champions won 29 out of the 34 total matches that season, losing only once in the process.

SeasonChampionsAway Win Percentage
2020/2021Bayern Munich64.7%
2019/2020Bayern Munich76.5%

2013/2014Bayern Munich82.4%
2012/2013Bayern Munich88.2%
2011/2012Borussia Dortmund64.7%

Similar to the notion mentioned in the Home Win Advantage stat, the Bundesliga teams recorded the highest away-win ratio in the past 15 years during the 2019/20 season, when teams were playing behind closed doors from February onwards and were missing out on their home support. The overall away-wins ratio for that season was 38%, which was extremely high when compared to the 10-year average of 30.5%.

Bundesliga Champions – Historical Totals Draw Stats

During the 2016/17 season, Bayern Munich ended up with 7 draws (which could be considered high) in total. However, they could then boast of a 100% unbeaten run at home during that season. They could also take pride in the same impressive result in the 2020/21 season too, when they won 13 and drew 4 of the 17 matches played at home.

Average Number of Points per Match for the Bundesliga Winner Stats

The highest score in our list is from Bayern Munich’s record-breaking campaign in the 2012/13 season, when they managed to tally 91 points! During the second half of the season, they only dropped 2 points in all 17 matches, gaining 49 out of the 51 possible points. They repeated that same feat in the 2019/20 season, only missing out on a perfect closing half of the season thanks to a 0-0 draw to RB Leipzig.

2011/2012Bayern Munich812.38

Over the past 10 seasons, the average number of points to gain in order to end up in a top 4 position was 59.3 points. That results in an average of 1.74 points per match. On the other hand, the average number of points to gain in order not to risk direct relegation or play the relegation playoff is 1.03 per match.

In 2015/16, Borussia Dortmund even managed to win 78 points, but still finished in 2nd place that year… naturওally, behind Bayern Munich. On that occasion, Bayern Munich managed to win the Bundesliga by a 10-point margin.

Over the past 9 seasons of being crowned champions, the Bavarians have set an outstanding average of winning the league with a comfortable 14-point margin over second place. The record for highest points margin to win the league was set in 2012/13, when they won by a 25-point margin!

Highest Number of Points for Relegation Stats
